Ivy Kohen

I have decided that one of the hardest things to do in life is name your children and with a last name like Higginbotham you have to be really strategic on what you choose 🤪 We also have the added detail that all the siblings (on both sides) of our families are named with either a K or a C so it gets even more complicated. We are Kadi and Kyle sooooo obviously we have to continue the trend right?!

I’m a chronic over thinker and my child’s name is something I spend a lot of time thinking and praying about. The first thing you are called when you enter this world is of the upmost importance to me. Names have meaning and I believe what we are called sets the tone for our lives. In your name, I believe, is deeply woven a purpose from our creator.

So, Ivy Kohen, yours is no different. I spent months praying over you and your name, who you would be, and what your purpose will be in this world.

Kohen– Kohen is Hebrew meaning “priest”. In the Jewish culture the surname Kohen was for direct descents of Aaron who was the first Jewish priest and a prophet. At that time priesthood was hereditary. Kohens were “set apart”. They were chosen by God to lead His people.

I firmly believe my sweet Kohen- you are set apart for a higher calling in this world. You are a direct decent of the most high King and carry with you a divine authority as his daughter. You were chosen by Yahweh to come to this world at this very time.

I speak 1 Peter 2:9 over your life “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

Ivy– Your first name came from a special place in my heart that the Lord showed me while worshiping to one of my favorite songs “The Garden” by Kari Jobe.

Ivy can grow in some of the darkest places and in light. It symbolizes fidelity because it won’t easily let go of something it’s attached itself to and eternal life because it’s evergreen.

In Hebrew the name Ivy means “God’s gift”.

Ivy Kohen you are a beautiful gift from God to our family growing inside of me at a time where I felt nothing could grow. You thrived and pushed through reaching for light proving that there is hope and more growth ahead. You taught me to let my faith be like Ivy… rising up from deep within… reaching for the light! You are a cherished gift, may you continue to grow even in darkness towards His light.

The lyrics from “The Garden” play over and over in my head and I sing them over you almost daily. If you are reading this I pray that you take these words from Kari’s beautiful song below as an encouragement to your soul. God plans ahead for moments in our lives. Nothing takes Him off guard…. He has never left your side. Not a moment of growth is wasted!

The Garden- Kari Jobe

I had all

But given up

Desperate for

A sign from love

Something good

Something kind

Bringing peace to every corner of my mind

Then I saw the garden

Hope had come to me

To sweep away the ashes

And wake me from my sleep

I realised

You never left

And for this moment

You planned ahead

That I would see

Your faithfulness in all of the green

I can see the ivy

Growing through the wall

‘Cause You will stop at nothing

To heal my broken soul

I can see the ivy

Reaching through the wall

‘Cause You will stop at nothing

To heal my broken soul

Ohh, You’re healing broken souls

You’re healing, You’re healing broken souls

Faith is rising up like ivy

Reaching for the light

Hope is stirring deep inside me

Making all things right

Love is lifting me from sorrow

Catching every tear

Dispelling every lie and torment

Crushing all my fears

You crush all my fears

You crush all my fears

With Your perfect love

Oh-ohh, with Your perfect love

Now I see redemption

Growing in the trees

The death and resurrection

In every single seed
